Delays in LPA Registration!

Stuart Maher Watson Ramsbottom Solicitors

The latest published update has revealed that applications to register Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) may now take up to 20 weeks to be processed due to delays reported by the OPG (Office of the Public Guardian)

LPA’s are important legal documents which allow a person to appoint people they trust to make important decisions on their behalf and must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before they become legally valid.

Unfortunately, the delay (more than double the normal waiting time) in applications being processed is due to a backlog in applications caused by staffing issues at the OPG when COVID hit and most staff had been required to work from home.

This delay undoubtedly shows the need to plan for the future and have your LPA’s drawn up and registered before they become needed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Got Your Back!”]To discuss a Lasting Power of Attorney or matters generally relating to the administration of the affairs of a loved one who has issues with mental capacity, please contact Stuart Maher, on 01254 880834 or stuart.maher@watsonramsbottom.com .[/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row]
