International Womens Day takes place each year on 8th March and not only celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, but also importantly marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Campaigning around International Women’s Day receives global support.
One organisation supporting the campaign to raise awareness is domestic violence charity Aurora New Dawn http://www.aurorand.org.uk who play a significant role in supporting victims of domestic abuse and strongly advocate that violence against women and hidden violence are both the causes and consequences of gender inequality and that ending violence is central to achieving a world where no one is limited by their sex or gender.
This year Aurora New Dawn, as part of their 2018 IWD campaign are celebrating the women who have inspired and driven the organisation to make a difference to victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking and have complied a list of their top 18 – http://www.aurorand.org.uk/our-top-18-amazing-sisters-international-womens-day/
Included on the list is Watson Ramsbottom Director and Head of Family Law, Domestic Abuse and Stalking, Rachel Horman who they describe as “an amazing lawyer. We like Rachel’s blog posts in particular, as she makes legal speak understandable. We often advise survivors to look at her posts and they say it always helps them to understand their experiences.”
Of her inclusion on the list Rachel said, “ it’s a real honour to be included in a list of such inspiring individuals united in working to help change and save lives on a daily basis. International Womens Day provides some much needed focus on the seriousness and realities of domestic abuse.
The Watson Ramsbottom Family Law department has gained widespread national recognition for groundbreaking work in domestic violence, forced marriage and honour based violence, FGM, stalking, harassment and cyberstalking. More details of the department’s specialist work area can be seen here.
