Jonathan Leach, Director and Solicitor at Watson Ramsbottom, has been appointed as a fee-paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber, following an in depth and demanding selection process.
As part of the process, Jonathan had to submit a detailed application form and sit an exam. He was then invited to an interview and also had to be monitored whilst dealing with mock hearings. All candidates were judged on merit alone, measured by five core qualities: intellectual capacity; personal qualities (integrity, independence, judgment, decisiveness, objectivity, ability; willingness to learn); ability to understand and deal fairly; authority and communication skills; and efficiency.
Jonathan has been appointed to the North West region and once he has completed further training will sit throughout Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
Jonathan commented: “As an experienced litigator, my work includes regular representation in Courts & Tribunals. I am delighted that I can now continue my professional development and am proud to be part of the UK judicial system. I wanted to contribute in a wider role which will allow me to use the skills and experience I have acquired. Being appointed as a Judge is a real honour and I look forward to working as part of the judiciary.”
Jonathan remains committed to Watson Ramsbottom and his clients and will also continue to be a vital member of the firms’ management team. His appointment as a fee-paid Tribunal Judge is a part time role.
Watson Ramsbottom Managing Director Elton Ashworth commented: “We are glad to have been able to support Jonathan through this process, and are delighted for him on his appointment.”
