We are delighted to have been able to provide a donation to assist Blackburn Children’s University with their ongoing activities.
The Children’s University (CU) is a national organisation which offers an innovative programme of high quality learning opportunities for children aged 5-14 outside of school hours. It seeks to reward participation, raise aspirations and encourage engagement with learning.
Blackburn Children’s University
Blackburn Children’s University is in it’s 12th Year now, having been established in 2010, and is currently working with seven primary schools within the borough (Sacred Heart, St. Aidan’s, St. Anthony’s, St Michael with St. John, St. Silas, The Redeemer and Wensley Fold). Some have a member of staff within the school responsible for arranging Children’s University activities, whilst others work with the Blackburn Children’s University Hub based at Wensley Fold primary school.
Activities
Activities are setup and on offer after school, at weekends and in the holidays, with opportunities to get involved in things such as sports, animal fun, drama, arts and crafts, creative days, cooking, arranged trips to places and much more being available to those taking part. The University Centre at Blackburn College also provide fun activities across a variety of subjects.
Participating children are given a ‘passport to learning’ when they join, in which they record the hours they complete as part of the Children’s University. Award certificates are earned based on the number of hours built up in accordance with the National Certification Scheme, and rewards are available from 30 hours participation right up to 1000 hours, making participation inclusive for all.
Children can also attain ‘stamps’ for taking part in external activities not arranged by the BCU, so that their own individual interests can count towards their Children’s University experience. These would include things such as scouts, swimming, martial arts or junior football.
Our Assistance
Our donation will aid Blackburn Children’s University in arranging future activities, enabling them to offer even more opportunities to local children.
We are delighted to have been able to support what is a fantastic initiative which is accessible to children in the community in and around our Blackburn office.
